Resolutions vs Promises

Why is that we find it easier to stick to promises made to others as opposed to the ones made to ourselves? Is it because there is no fear of disappointing someone in the latter case as we can justify anything to ourselves in the end, of course!

That said, my top(infact the only one as of now) resolution for the next 20 weeks is to lose weight - a kg a week. I have set little milestones and rewards for myself but I cannot think of a grand prize worthy of this feat if I achieve me minus 20 kgs in 20 weeks. Any suggestions?

And i am his partener in the noble and holy quest !!!

we'll make it dude, except, of course, in my case it won't be a kg a week...maybe a kg a month is enough for me !!!

and the grand prize would be a song dedicated to you in dublin. Sounds cool ?

Promises meet happy endings because we fear disappointments. According to that theory, u can never succeed by following an incentive based model, there isn't much disappointment at the end! ...sooo no song dedicated in dublin, how bad can that be? I'd suggest buy me the tickets and dedicate a song to me if you break your resolution. :) doesn't that motivate you to run right now (away from me ;))

do suggest, what horrible horrible things can we do to them if they fail to succeed? :)

Hope there's some conquest at the end of this journey - that'll be some load off this over-burdened land. Maybe just these kgs will save the planet earth from collapsing into a black hole..

As far as suggestions go, this might sound a little primitive but always-always works: eat less & burn more!!

Rahul,
song in dublin sounds perfecto! Of course, it'd have to be Comfortably Numb :)

Bhumika,
You gonna have to rephrase that coz that logic just went swooooooping over my head. Oh but yes, the anti-incentive of buying tickets for you is already working wonders - my legs are begging to run away from you Right Here, Right Now!

Serious suggestions on rewards for losing weight? Splurge on getting yourself a new wardrobe (unfortunately this works better for women than for men). A new bike, then? Or maybe a sky-diving course? Sky's the limit!

Well I am guessing that splurging on clothes is going to happen automatically to accomodate the new me-minus-20-kg but sky-diving..hmm.. now you're talking :)
